Street vendors took to the streets in full force, taking advantage of the spending spree currently rife in Honiara due to Christmas

Street vendors have taken to the streets offering everything from perfumes, matches, watches and bracelets to second hand clothing. "Along the main streets of Honiara looks like a back alley in Thailand where these kinds of street vending is very popular." said a Lifhaus regular. Lifhaus also spotted a large truck parked outside a Point Cruz shop selling clothes. Apparently, the authorities have turned a blind eye and the vendors are cashing in on the festive mood by offering things that can be quickly sold.

Quiet in Honiara save the usual drunkards

Posted on December 25th, 2009 by Administrator.

Aside from the usual occurances of the drunkards reeling home early in the morning, the christmas eve celebrations in Honiara were relatively quiet. There were the usual complaints of loud music, drunks chasing each other and shouting to disturb the peace, there was relatively no major disturbances in most Honiara suburbs. "I think more people left for the provinces this year so things were relatively quiet." said a Mbua Valley resident.

The Office of the Prime Minister & Cabinet has relaunched its website. Speaking with Lifhaus the PM's office said this will be a "soft launch" as advised by the developers of the website. "We will be working closely with the developers up to the point when all the information we would like to be displayed on the website is collated, published and available for the general public." However, the Prime Minister has been especially keen on ensuring that the news component of the website must be available immediately and this has prompted the develo

increased parliament seats

I wonder if the increase of seats for the election is a geniune move by government to provide better representation of the people or would it be simply a political gimmick used by parliamentarians to secure their seats? I mean now the loud, wildly outspoken member of Rennell Bellona can almost guarantee a return to parliament because an alternative seat is now on offer for the province....the same for a lot of constituencies in the country. Marovo too looks like being split giving the Finance minister more chances of returning.....what has become of our parliamentarians? t

Will bemobile eventually get its license?

Posted on December 16th, 2009 by Administrator.

The decision by the Evaluation Committee is still causing a stir in Honiara. The Island Sun has already run a frontpage story on a possible skyrocketing pricing regime to be imposed by bemobile. This may seem a little far fetched at the moment but prices of mobile phone calls around the region are anything but coming down in recent times.

Moti is a free man

So Julian Moti is now a free man.
AFP erred but the judge stopped short of opening a can of worms by dismissing that AFP's actions were politically motivated.
SIG erred because it supported an illegal "extradition".
So what is next for SIG. Compensation to Our Telekom and then Julian Moti too?
