Carbon footprint by telco's can impact profitablility

Metaswitch is an UK-based telecommunications provider and in one of its presentations yesterday during the PITA AGM, company executives highlighted the need for telecommunications providers to "go green.  A lot of providers in Europe are now more conscious of their impact on the environment as well as the need to be part of global efforts to reduce our reliance on fossil fuel."

Prepare for very agressive marketing by Digicel

Delegates attending the PITA AGM and Conference have very varied stories about the Digicel experience.  Yet none is more stunning then the revelation from a Vanuatu delegate who has warned that "bemobile and Our Telekom must prepare themselves for some very aggressive marketing strategy employed by Digicel".  Our source was commenting on discussions with Lifhaus on the possible tender of a 3rd mobile phone license in 2011.

PITA AGM enters final days of discussions

The PITA AGM and Conference currently hosted by Our Telekom is entering its final days of discussion.  Lifhaus reporters on site highlight that there has been little difficulty faced by the organizers and the discussions have been enriching for those who attended for the first time.  "Our Telekom and some other organizations in the country have used this opportunity to teach themselves about the latest trends in telecommunications that is relevant to the Pacific and how they can leverage benefits from those technologies."

Makuru wins as former All Rounder scholar plays

Honiara Football Association powerhouse, Makuru FC powered to a commanding 4-0 victory over Flamengo in yesterday's game.   But it was 13 minutes of the final half that proved special for former USP All Rounder scholar, Kellington Simeon who finally made an appearance for Makuru FC.

SIBF elects new executive in AGM 2010

The Solomon Islands Basketball Federation has elected a new executive during its AGM held Sunday 2th April 2010 at the Woodford International School.  President Don Boykin retains the presidency he secured during an extra-ordinary AGM held in 2009 after the resignation of former president Freda Matangi.

Former Our Telekom CTO now with bemobile

The rumour mills have been in full cycle for a while now but Lifhaus is now able to confirm that Our Telekom's former Chief Technology Officer, Harry Zoleveke, is now working for rival bemobile.  After spending some time with PacTel in Fiji Mr. Zoleveke has since been snapped up by new PNG mobile entrant to the Solomon Islands market, bemobile.

Our Telekom welcomes delegates to PITA AGM

The first batch of participants for the PITA AGM and Conference due to be held in Honiara from the 26th - 30th April 2010 have already started arriving.  However, the biggest group of participants so far arrived on the flight from Brisbane.  Organizers who had anticipated slightly more than 30 delegates to arrive were surprised when almost 50 delegates arrived on the flight.

Airbus A330 causes slight delay at Henderson Airport

The Friday flight from Brisbane was already delayed by 2 hours at Brisbane due to what our sources confirm were minor mechanical faults with the aeroplane.  Frustration was not only felt by the passengers but also by would be travellers and those waiting to pick up passengers.
