Free Live World Cup Matches for Villagers

Posted on June 28th, 2010 by Iroasi.

As the excitement of the knock stages of the FIFA World Cup is gearing towards giving way to the quarter finals, Okwala, a tiny community in the interior of Malaita is sharing the same excitement as those in urban Solomon Islands communities, thanks to a prime location of a villager's house which has enabled TV coverage to reach the green hills in style and comfort.

Portugal & Brazil fans clash although both qualify

Posted on June 26th, 2010 by Administrator.

Both Brazil and Portugal qualified for the last 16 after fighting to a stalemate but that did not prevent overzealous fans from clashing on Friday night. Reports reaching Lifhaus indicate that fans watching on the big screen outside of the One News office clashed but no injuries were reported.

"Most of those involved in the scuffle were obviously drunk. I think some of the frustration was because of the lack of beautiful football and one faction desperately wanting a win."

Earthquake off Makira, no reports of damage

Posted on June 26th, 2010 by Administrator.

Honiara residents were shocked to feel a strong earthquake shake the capital at around 5pm on Saturday 26th June 2010. There were no official reported damages and official reports confirm that the epicentre was off Kirakira in Makira Province.

Lifhaus sources confirm that residents in Kirakira were caught unawares and were quite worried of the possibility of a tsunami. However, official tsunami notices from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre clearly highlighted that historical data ruled out the generation of tsunami in that area.

Joses Tuhanuku vs Mike Hemmer,

Good to see this crap. While too early to speculate on outcome, I'd like to thank to J/Tuhanuku for taking a bold stance against the Managing directory of SPO. The term/s and deals outlined by one Soltar contributor seems too fishy.

As for sexual harrasement, it's another issue.

the 57 word fishy proposal

Posted on June 18th, 2010 by neo and tagged .

There is persistent debate in New Zealand over a 4.8M allocation for development projects in Solomon Islands to New Zealand firm PEDA. The stunning thing about this story is that only 57 words were contained in the project proposal that clearly highlighted what it was and how the project will work. Think of it, 57 words and the project is allocated 4.8M

Antenna shortage sparks growth in local manufacture

Locally made antenna
Slide text:

It has become very difficult to obtain professionally made antennas in Honiara, that did not stop Stennet Wini making antennas for himself

Stennet Wini, during the day, is a valuable member of the maintenance team employed by the Honiara based, Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA). During the night he follows the World Cup in South Africa and is an avid soccer fan who cheers tirelessly for his team, Portugal.

Yet another skill has come handy because Mr. Wini's work colleagues are turning to him to create antennas for them. "Today, I am making four for my work colleagues because they complained that they could not find good quality antennas in the shops." said Mr. Wini.

If the Western Govt. plans to hold on to its 49% share of the cake but has no money to refloat the sinking Soltai, I don't see any reasons why they have to keep pulling the rope. What na by ota earnim 49% share blo ota lo hem if kabani ya no waka? Ufala moa

knights of the round table

Posted on June 15th, 2010 by neo and tagged .

King Aurther's knights of the round table were men of honor and integrity. i am led to believe that knighthood maintains those very simple principles. when commonwealth countries adopted that system, a knighthood was confered under very exceptional circumstances. In the Solomon Islands, i see those standards greatly eroded and the Queen's "table" is smeared and accommodates less deserving knights. This must stop and our government must relook at itself and make a stand against the practise of giving knighthood to friends, cronies and idiots...latest case in

Germany shows gap and class

Posted on June 14th, 2010 by grafixFarm and tagged .

It was a humiliating defeat for the Socceroos. To add insult to injury, the only person capable of scoring in the team was red carded. Silly tackle by Cahill but by then the Socceroos were already "kick n kum" on the germans. But I thought the game really showed the class and the gap between the football powerhouses of the world and our closest and strongest neighbour. Even Australia has a long long way to go! I thought Lucas deserved to be red carded too because he kicked, he shoved and did anyone see that clear knee to the back of the german?
