Batram Suri and Kidston Billy helped their team Amical FC stormed to the top of the Port Vila Premier League table by trashing Tafea FC. Tafea FC has been the champion of Vanuatu Soccer for 15 years in a row taking along a huge following.
The Saturday game was different, with more than 2,000 spectators, all present to see what Amical FC can do with their Solomon players against the Vanuatu power house Tafea FC with is full o'league line up. Amical FC showed its intention by including all Solomon imports in its line, with Batram and Kidston leading from the front, supported by Mostyn Sanga in midfield, and Nelson Sale and Richard Anisua holding the defence line. People were still pouring in to watch the game when Amical FC struck their first goal. A long ball was crossed from the middle of the field to Kidston on the right who flicked it across the back post for Batram to head it beyound the keeper's reached. The goal was scored within the first 2 minutes, and it brought celebrations across the stand as Amical supporters screamed for joy. The goal changed the tempo of the game as Tafea FC tried to use their pysical strenght to diffuse the Amical forward trio of Batram, Fenedy Masauvakalo and Kidston.
It was not until the 35th minute of the first half that Batram struck his second goal courtesy of a cheeky back flick from Fenedy. The game went into the second spell with 2-0 in favour of Amical FC. If Tafea FC thought they could get back into the game - they were wrong. Again just within two minutes of the second half, Batram received a quick one-two pass from Richard (Ni-van) and speed down the by-line before crossing a teasing ball across the goal mouth and was easily placed past the goal keeper by Kidston. The goal was followed by scenes of celebrations as fans of Amical FC and those following the Solomon players celebrated. Batram add another goal to his name before being substituted. The final score was 5-0 in favour of Amical FC.
The game also saw young Mostyn Sanga excelled in midfield as he worked with his Vanuatu midfield partner to break up the Tafea FC attack and link up play with the Amical FC forward players. Nelson and Richard Anisua protected their goal-mouth by ensuring Tafea FC danger men such as Francois Sakama, Nako Napropel, Richard Iwai, and Ettiene Mermer were kept at bay. Richard Anisua kept the crowd entertained with his smile and cheeky defending.
Amical FC is now leading the table with 24 points followed by Tafea FC with 20 points. This season had seen drastic changes in the Port Vila League as teams tried to bolster their ranks and challenge Tafea FC. Amical FC is owned by Andrew Leong, owner of Au Bou Marche, the largest supermarket chains in Vanuatu. Another team vying for the top spot is Spirit 08 FC, at team with a huge financial backing as well.
This result is a wake-up call for Tafea FC as never in the history of Vanuatu footaball had they been beaten by a local rival by such goal margin.
