Just finished my unsuccesful attempt to call my dad on Malaita. I heard strange kind of sounds going on when he picked up the phone.I didn't get to talk to him but wasn't worried at all cos I was calmed by the nation-wide apology given the Telekom boss last month.Hopefully 3G will come and clear things up making it more effecient to connect...
Today's the 3rd of March, we have 7 more days of waiting...
I hope the 10th of March will change things for good....
Let's cross our fingers and see if Telekom will deliver on their promises....
According to their schedule tomorrow na ba..o mi wrong?
Things look to be working for our telekom so my wait is sure to be rewarding one....hopefully
try calling from australia to my family mobile number but could not be connected. Semsem try call later and the likes msg. I then called a land line but too noisy could not hear them talking. Its like me talking to myself in the bush. My hope tomorrow the D day will clear so I can talk to my family

Lifhaus sources indicate that Huawei will decide on when it will make the switch over. It may be tomorrow or realistically by the 21st March at the latest. Huawei might be ready to press da button but oketa internal process lo telekom no ready good yet. Our sources indicate that Telekom is also preparing its product launch to coincide with Easter. We did not have time to verify authenticity so umi everyone wait on what kind official announcement nao by come from Our Telekom tomorrow, if any. This information hem no fittim for umi puttim olsem news because by umi gossip nao ya...so puttim lo discussion forum nomoa....However, as today's front page story has highlighted, the 3G network is already working at Henderson - so hold tight, it may just be around the corner!

still counting or hao ba?
The cutover happened Thursday night, successfully done with some minor issues still being resolved. We will see how it holds up but the 3G network is done and cutover made. Available in Honiara, Auki and Gizo. Rest of the Solomons will have EDGE/2.5G technology to give the same 3G experience. Voice/SMS is on for everywhere. Phase 2 coming up.
maybe need time to sit properly.
user1, isn't that true of everything new? by new government come in long June/July - by umi no feelim and if its anything like all the past government we will only feel it when they line up their own pockets and rant in parliament. as for the 3G network, it will have its teething problems but perhaps the biggest improvement was people were able to at least make calls that connected on Friday (last night). maybe once all the issues are resolved - next Friday, there will be no Network is busy signal! but to really feel it, simply get a 3G handset - not to get on the internet but to access voice/sms on the 3G network...it is almost guaranteed reliable service - Friday and every other day
All calls i made went through on a Friday...unless subscribers power off (switched the handset off) or is currently on another call...Now network is being fine tuned.. so if ur experiencing any sort of discomfort we would be happy to know...sometimes its a handset issue...but be sure to specify handset model, where you called from, who u called, and whether it was mobile to mobile or house/public phone.
Check out ur mobile specs here: http://www.gsmarena.com/
just type model number and search..eg. Nokia 1202
Lets play ball...

Question blo mi....mi lukim dis wan lo hia lo Fiji n mi wander weda Telekom bae duim same samting...both Vodafone n recently Degicel ota garem nao ota USB modem wea u save accessim internet from....mi lelbet bush man lelebet lo dat wan bat anyone save talem mi weda dat wan bae waka lo new 3G network ya?
Our Telekom will also sell USB Dongles for internet access using either a prepaid or postpaid SIM.
Then I'll dream of accessing internet from my village over the holidays....that's if mi save affordim price...lol..thanks for information ya
In fact the mobile internet is already live and running...USB dongles have been issued to trial customers from various fields of work within the general public and its making them smile...but don't worry if you don't get one...those of you that have a 3G handset can experience the same with your mobile. Set ur mobile up and connect to the laptop via bluetooth or mini USB cable and you're surfing the web in minutes. Or you can surf from ur handset directly. Now it is worth the fuss to buy a good 3G mobile handset. Dongles are sold @ SB$750 each (but its been put onhold atm)...cheaper than the wireless ADSL modem @ SB$1000 plus...packages are yet to be confirmed... Let mi know if ur in honiara now and have access to a postpaid SIM...u have 6 days left to try somethings for free...PM me...
Indanet thanks for the news but pls avoid it becoming a nuisance. Infact i have tried the dongle loan from a fren overnight. i must say it was a perfect piece ease with the breze much better/faster than the ADSL wireless. But its endurance is yet to be tested. tis taem maybe handful is using it.
by the way i have a g3 handset with a prepaid sim. How do i go about getting it on my handset?
@user1... what "indanet" had said is more or less quite correct...and as he/she has said "packages are yet to be confirmed" as in packages for both prepaid & postpaid customers are yet to be confirmed...but if you have a postpaid SIM now and an internet capable handset/mobile phone, it can be setup to access the mobile data/internet...without the package (it will be set to go on the casual data rate)...this can happen to a prepaid SIM also if your subscription is enabled (it will attract subcription fee TBC). mid range and above 2G & 3G mobile phones can access the mobile data/internet part of this new network.
Check ur phone spec's here: http://www.gsmarena.com/
search and see what ur fone is capable of.
To setup for Data connectoion, the basic setings will be:
Create a Data connection (depends on ur model of handset..if u don't know please specify ur model here)
Name the connection to "Breeze Data"
APN is set to "internet"...without the quotes..and all lowercase.
and leave the rest as it is...don't even bother to change it...this should work for most nokia handsets. most high end Nokia phones will automatically detect the APN and prompt to use it.
This is a Packet Data (PS) connection or Http. It will differ on various handsets.

Aren't the Telekom rates already one of the cheapest in the s/pacific?
It's $1.50 from mobile to mobile (anywhere long kandere),
$2.00 from mobile to fix and vice versa,
internatinal calls me no savyy.
Wantoks long Viti, Vanuatu ,Oszi etc, what now rates long there (compare long SI seleni) for Digitcel, vodafon etc...
International call rate from Aust to Solo is AUD$1.43 per minute using Telstra. Telstra is said to be the cheapest network in Aust.. So this would be around SBD$9-$10 per minute....
So i guess calling from Solo to Aust is cheaper than Aust to Solo... dont know the Solo rate though..
Lo fiji using DIGICEL( da cheapest so far) it's 90 cent per unit ya..which if try use ur sense 2 work out.....approx $FJ 1=about $SB5-00....angting solo telco hem cheap yet ya...ting ting nomoa ya
yes if you look at the face value we r expensive but if U compare ur $ to others we Cheapest. The Media is at tome against us small economy and countries.
They will try to kill our interest to keep their interest.
