Days before Devande was set to take the Fest'napuan music show by storm with his award winning song "Everything", a slight overly zealous slip has cost the young and upcoming singer his one moment of glory. After being declared the winner of the Pacific Break 2009, Devande has been stripped off the title when organizers declared that the song was originally recorded by the OneTox band which effectively contravened one of its most important criteria.
Lifhaus spoke with some insiders close to the situation and our sources revealed, "There was a One News TV interview held with Casper Luiramo Jnr, a member of Toon Toons, and Sammy Aitorea who is the musical genius behind OneTox. In this interview Casper declared that the song Everything is on OneTox soon to be released second album and that Devande was actually the lead singer of OneTox."

"I think Casper never fully understood the consequences of his action, that being hasty without considering all possible scenarios would cost Devande the Pacific Break title. And even if he did, he was perhaps more interested in his own personal ambition to be part of the success."
Lifhaus spoke with certain disappointed fans and one commented, "well, lets just say a looney Toon Toon cost Devande the title." Conspiracy theories are also circulating with some people suggesting that Devande may have been dobbed in by a rival. "Its really sad to see that such a young talent could have lost such an honor through the miscalculation of those also wanting a piece of the pie. Casper Luiramo is basically one of their own."
Other commentators said, "One has to understand the nature of OneTox to fully appreciate that perhaps Devande did not intend to mislead producers at ABC Radio. OneTox is a collection of bands not a single entity as we are led to believe."
The OneTox concept is quite complex and shrouded in myth and mystery. Certain commentators agree that Onetox was originally formed by George Kuper Jnr and Bernard Vave while freelancing at the Shefram Sounds studio in Honiara. However, a reliable source indicates that Onetox owes it origins to the hit single 'Ramukanji" co-written by George and Bernard with excerpts from others at Shefram. "This single catapulated George and Bernard into stardom. The owner of Shefram Sounds studio then decided that he would market a collection of musically talented boys under the OneTox band label." This began the process by which members of Toon Toons, DMP and other session musicians began to collaborate under the OneTox label. "In all the hype and euphoria of the moment people began to lose sight of the real origins of OneTox and its original cast." It is understanding that each member contributes his own work to the success of the OneTox band that matters. Therefore, other members must not be hasty in claiming rights and give credit where it is due. If Devande has indeed written that song on his own, others should simply allow him his own space.
It is too late to right a wrong or spend time on regrets. But certainly, Devande will be disappointed that a sure road to stardom has just been curtailed due to a lack of foresight and their own miscalculations.
