The DPP has a very interesting take on the allegations put on paper by A Sasako.  His office upholds the constitution so "Shut up or ship out" according to Solomon Star.

Henry Daukalia questioned the DPP's outburst and I concur, the allegations put forward by Sasako need to be explained - the discerning public also want answers.  Why is it very difficult to provide answers to set the allegations to rest?  Explaining the role of the DPP's office does little to offer explanations!!!

The allegation is there is a massive cover up all the way up to the DPP's office.  Why?  Despite which side of the fence you are on - we should agree that our faith in the judicial system must NEVER be shaken!

DPP's Independence

While the DPP is one instrument in our judiciary that is the guardian of the law, he is in no way the only one. The media itself plays it's part by ensuring that the public are informed on issues concerning law and order and also ensuring that those who apply the law are held accountable. This is where Alfred Sasako comes in and I take my hat off to him for bring the issues regarding the car accident and its handling to the fore.

It would be a sad day if the DPP thinks he can shut Alfred up. That will not happen DPP. If anything, the DPP's very action in trying to muzzle Alfred raises a number of questions. One of the glaring ones is "Is he the DPP and his office independent? In his response to Alfred, he has been harping about the independence of his position and the office. It is all well and good but doe his word match his action? On face value, his words are mere words - there is nothing concrete to show for it. Since the law (his area of speciality), evidence, is bottom line in the conviction of an accused or dismissal of charges against an accused, we must also demand the same from the DPP in this case to back his assertion that he and his office are independent in this instance.

Mr DPP show us the evidence that you and your office were independent in dealing with the case. If you cannot provide any evidence, then you and your office were not independent when dealing with the case and the issues raised by Alfred still stands.

Its time to scrutinize the DPP

I definitely welcome the investigative report by Sasako. The law profession seemed to be a profession that is untouchable. No one seems to challenge them and they take pride in that fact. Its time they face the same scrutiny that other professions are being subjected to.
Now DPP cringes under the spot light. The last thing they needed. HOHO LMAO

we must wait for 2 weeks

apparently, the DPP has said that "no stones will be left unturned" when he comes back from his annual leave.  Pity we have to wait for 2 weeks until he returns but I am really looking forward to this.

Sasako

I find it hard to take Mr Sasako seriously as an 'investigative journalist' after he wrote all those paid for articles for Kelvyn 'Con Man' Alp and Pheonix International (hmmm, that name makes it sound a bit like one of those mercenary companies - well, they all work for gold don't they). I wonder who is paying him now to write the current stuff. He is also spraying like a shotgun with a whole lot of allegations that he is making out to be fact - if the facts were that clear then the case would not have faltered in court.

big fish but runaway

Hahahahaha....sasako again....i once wrote on peoplefirst about sasako...but anyway, what good will come out of going after the DPP?  So he has the DPP's attention! But isn't the right place to wage this war is in Australia?  If you intend to ensure that Edwards has her day in court then kick up the fuss in the australian media, announce how Australia may be housing a fugitive....they are always keen to get their guy/gal anyway...they set out to get Moti, they got him. they set out to get Einfield - they got the bugger...so why not set them after Edwards...after all you live in Brisbane don't you?  And if Sasako is indeed the journalist he says he is....it is quiet easy to sell this scandal in Oz don't you think?
Finally, am I supposed to take Sasako seriously?  After all, after the ethnic tension he filled our papers with the same crap and nothing came out of it.  He was on a mission to expose the "big fish" behind the ethnic tension.  Sasako, if you are reading this - I am still waiting for at least 1 big fish to go to jail....oketa mamula nomoa rotten lo Rove this time.  Perhaps the same thing will come out of the Edwards case....Sasako gets his pay, Solomon Star sells more than 5000 copies a day and the DPP gets dragged through the mud....all for what?  nothing!!!!

DPP defends himself

In a nutshell, the DPP defended the latest allegations against him by saying that he acted on the advice of the prosecutor and investigating officers.  They had agreed that there was no compelling evidence to bring the case to trial.  OK - so naturally, that shifts the blame to someone else.  We wait to see what Sasako will say but looks like the DPP has the ball thrown back squarely on his face as Sasako may have put a half baked bread on the paper...or so it seems...

Now we await what the DPP will offer as an explanation in the Edwards case - now that one will be different because apparently he had enough evidence to go to trial....DPP, we are waiting.

Sasako wants back into politics

I think all the rubbish that Sasako is writing at the moment is to just bignote himself so that he can run in the next election and say "look at all the issues I've been raising!!". I laughed when he justified writing all that rubbish for Kelvyn Alp by saying he was paid after it was published - in other words Alp waited to see how good it was and if it got published before he paid up.

New revelation

Seems like the root of the problem is beginning to surface. Interesting read indeed from the officer who investigated the incident. Now thats what we are talking about. Bring it on Sasako lets kick arse.

I missed the telecast on TV

I missed the telecast on TV (User1 could probably elaborate on the TV version)  - but I read the paper today.  On its face value, it is an unconvincing defense.  Some things stood out though:

- When DPP alluded to the fact that he had been visited by Carol Edwards estranged husband and reference to their civil case in Brisbane, is he in a way trying to put up the thought that the pursuit of Edwards could have been instigated by vested interests?  Such as a disgruntled husband going for payback on his wife?

- Lyn Baura's confession, here the DPP does not fully answer the initial question on whether she was coerced into confessing to a crime she did not commit.

- On the charges of manslaughter brought against Carol Edwards, the DPP said in the light of the previous conviction, he did not see it fit to bring Edwards to justice..which does not answer the question on whether the DPP ignored new evidences and standard procedure as so often drilled into us by Sasako and lately a Mr. Robinson.....

So my conclusion is, the DPP failed miserably in offering confidence to me in the independence of the judiciary and only reinforces the idea lurking in the back of my mind, that he is grossly incompetent to be DPP!...maybe some fala garem some great thoughts more....but I will leave it here first time.

the DPP is not the big

the DPP is not the big fish....Sasako i'm still waiting for the big fish.  You are wasting every body's time.  Folks watch some of the language used in the interview with Four Corners, Australian TV etc during the tension...when Kemakeza was asked why RAMSI came in he said "I was shot at.....my resort was burnt......" he was more worried about his own ass then anyone else's....Alebua also said the same thing using "I"!.....why is it that 5 years after RAMSI arrived there is no "BIG FISH" in prison.  After gracing the pages of Solomon Star with all the juicy details of the big fish, Kemakeza shut Sasako up for good when he gave him a cabinet position...likewise, Sasako can shout "investigative journalism" until the cows come home but as soon as he gets what he wants - its only going to be the poor old DPP who is going to be caught with his pants down...same as last time, umi waitim who nao big fish but we got caught with our pants in a twist and barata ya go cabinet minister nomoa!  Yes sasako, i read you have to make a living too....but you should also have the decency to bring closure to a lot of issues that you have raised.  You shouted "Big Fish", you shouted "Bankers are crooks", you shouted "Minimum education for parliament", you shouted "DPP is a liar", you shouted all sorts of things but you have NEVER delivered...not on the floor of parliament neither in the papers!....me fala public nomoa go het read dry nomoa, solomon star go het tek seleni but no any thing...as for the poor DPP, well you are not as shrewd as Kemakeza, you should have let him shout himself silly and went on with your job.

Be careful with Sasako

I doubt Sasako's credibility in the story that he is pushing. This man has shown in the past that he is not always genuine. In this case, I think, Sasako is doing the same thing. The fact that Carol Edward was the former wife of one of the Solomon Islands Chinese now residing in Brisbane is interesting. Sasako also lives there. From what I know Sasako also wrote a very nice piece on this businessman's assistance to ship chairs for his old school in the Star. Sometime ago I saw Sasako driving a vehicle belonging to the same businessman in Honiara during one of his trips to the Solomons. I observe with interest the way Sasako has behaved in this situation. The fact that the DPP has revealed that the former husband of Carol was also battling with a court case in Australia is interesting. If it is civil then I guess it will result in serious damages to the former husband if the children are in the custodian of Carol. It may be of interest to the former husband to see Carol given a long term jail so that she could abort the challenge.
I think the DPP has given his side of story. He has made a decision based on professional judgement and limit expense to the state.
I also think that the media needs to be fair. In this case if the media is found to taking side with Sasako then it's not correct. Surely journalism will lose its value in our land.
