Two nights ago, we sat around dinner and discussed this very topic. I guess the question that really struck me is what is the lure - why has this grown into a phenomena, an urban legend that does not seem to have an end.
On one hand, there is me - a skeptic right from the very beginning, someone who truly believes that this is a scam, a scheme that will bear nothing. In the word's of one of those discussing with us "a modern day cargo cult". On the other hand, there is the believer who truly believes the wild so often twisted tall tales that just cannot be believed by anyone in his or her right mind.
But the legend of Family Charity Fund has grown and seem stronger by the day. Prominent people are among those waiting for a big windfall, millions that will come to them one day.
It is hilarious, it is sad but what lies in this situation that makes it so believable...what makes people believe that the fund will eventually pay them money?
I think one of the things that lure the supporters of this scam is the million bucks’ jackpot. People just fall short of this amount, graving their imagination that it will come true no matter what, knowing very well at the back of their mind that believing in 100 dollars is near possible compared with this millions, which is totally impossible. It was the sound of the figures involved not the surety of the figures.
Makes me remember the phrase "A drowning man will grasp at a straw". I guess people are willing to lose that amount to not miss out on a lucrative deal just in case it falls through.. but mind you, there a lot of gullibles out there.. me being one of them. I purchased a ticket like so much cheap wine.. and it has leaked down the gutter...

..so put me on a highway ... and show me a sign ... and take it to the limit .... one more time...
