Lifhaus News Desk have been informed by our sources that some government supporters are deserting, leaving the 5 day old government of Prime Minister Danny Philip in a very precarious position. While the defection of Hon. Snyder Rini has been officially announced on SIBC, our sources are saying that first time MP, Hon. Joseph Onika has also defected to support his leader, Hon. Manasseh Sogavare who defected on the eve of the PM elections.
Our resident political analyst has said, "Hon. Rini's defection is over disagreements with the Prime Minister elect over who would take the coveted Minister of Finance portfolio. Hon. Gordon Darcy Lilo also wants the portfolio and it appears that the Prime Minister was leaning towards Hon. Lilo to which Rini took offense and defected to the opposition." There is also growing skepticism among Solomon Islanders that Hon Rini's defection is more self serving than that of a member of parliament geniunely interested in the affairs of our nation. Another commentator hinted, "What good will this do other than bring the Prime Minister down? There are already too many qualified people in opposition who can be Minister of Finance. I do not see what benefit Hon. Rini will get by joining the opposition."

Once again, Solomon Islands will face the possibility of another short-lived Prime Ministership if the current trend of defection continues. Other political commentators are hinting that there is growing concern over the make up of the government. "I think there is disagreement over the government that the Prime Minister has chosen. With the exception of a certain few individuals, most people are not happy with the choices that the Prime Minister has made for people in his cabinet."
Already some Honiara citizens were stunned when the Prime Minister ignored more qualified candidates and picked Hon. Manasseh Maelanga as his Deputy Prime Minister. "Based on integrity, I believe the Prime Minister made a big mistake by choosing certain people to hold very senior portfolios in government," said a Honiara resident speaking with Lifhaus.
While things look certain that the government of Hon. Danny Philip may be short-lived, other commentators are not discounting the influence of money. There are very strong suggestions which point to the fact that a lot of money is floating among the MP's. "We can live in denial and say there is no such things but the truth is it happens and money is being used to influence the decision of our members of parliament. This government may still survive if money finally wins the order of the day." said our resident Lifhaus political analyst.
