It is good to see government ministries getting online with their different websites.  But I have always wondered if the government has actually devised plans to take a uniform approach to this whole thing.  I mean just look at the different websites they have now.  I personally involved myself with PMC so I know they run Drupal, Trade Solomons is also on Drupal.  trade.com.sb runs on some kind of open source wiki (?), now Ministry of Finance is online but using ASP.NET and of course other government bodies still using frontpage/dreamweaver websites...eg the old and tired Ministry of Commerce website.  With these assortment of solutions, how do you easily allow for the flow of information?  I guess what I am trying to get at is government should sit down and decide on a holistic approach to the whole getting online thing.  It will be cost effective, efficient and in the long term save government a lot of money.  But in this instance you may multiple solutions, multiple vendors-support and a whole lot of mess.  What do you other geeks think?

Our government is outdated

They should create interactive websites where wantoks can post articles, write to Minsiters, debate issues facing the countries in various Ministries. They should also make use of the social-networking site. Wantoks, taem blong olo finis na. This new age demands constant networking, and business and politics nowadays are mostly conducted online.

The government should conduct a workshop for all Ministers on computer/internet literacy. Openem computer, login, and sendem email is not computer literacy. Our MPs should be at least confident in using the internet. Yu laik negom investors and other donors, better know how to user the internet.

i agree becos if basic

i agree becos if basic literacy nomoa how much moa computer literacy.  but the important thing here is leaders do not need to know how to work, play solitaire or turn on a computer to make sound IT decisions.  the key point is understanding what potential they have and making the right decision.  that is all is required of our leaders - make the right decision based on sound advise.

No policy so what do one expect

Grafix Farm and others the lack of or no policy in place to guide and direct the action will always see mushroom sprouting here and there. But that is not all in it a bad exercise for a developing nation adopting various tools to enhance its service delivery.

Since there is no policy on this the practice now is a reason to evaluate and adopt an appropriate tool the govt think is best address its needs.

One thing we can speculate on is that Developers are pushing ministries to accept their flavor since there is no reference to guide the negotiation of both parties.
