Hekari FC just beat Waitakere FC on goal average.
1st Leg (home) won 3 - 0
2nd Leg (away) lost 1 - 2

This is history now, first time for an Island clup to participate in FIFA World Club championships. They might have a chance to play against Inter-Milan or Buyern Munich, and other best clubs around the world.

I salute Mr. Kapinotto, a great leader who have a heart for soccer development in Melanesia.

All the best all the way!

pay credit where its due

Not to mention, scouts will be on the look out for the next "big" thing to hit the football world.  The World Club Championship was the launch pad to Benjamin Totori's injury-ruined move to the US.  The world is watching and every boyhood dream that the players have has just come true.  Proud to see Stanley Waita, Alick Maemae, Gideon Omokirio, Henry Fa'arodo, Eddie Ngaitini and coaches Jerry Allen & Tommy Mana become part of that historical run!
Credit to John Kapi Natto - he is a true visionary.  He deserves every ounce of credit!

experience matters

Hekari previously recruited Solo upcoming stars, Mela, Waroi, Aba etc and they have done well in their local league. When they tried to compete internationally in o-league 2008/9 they failed short of making it to the finals. It was also evident in the first leg of the 2009/10 o-league games.

Not until they recruited experienced players - Gideon, Stanley, Henry, Alick then the team performed way better in the international games. These players have great experiences playing against the mighty Socceroos, not only once but 5 times. The same socceroos players are the same players that played in the World Cup 2006 and will play again this coming world cup.

So when it comes to international games, together with other criterias, I guess experience does matter a lot. This may be a good lesson for our local selectors for the Solo SPG Soccer squad. Some young stars may perform well locally but it doesnt mean they will perform well also internationally.

But for now, Go Hekari Go! Show to our Solo clubs that with good management, an island club can end up in the World Club championship.

Hekari's win proved we dont need expensive overseas coaches, local boys can do the job. What else would be our next excuse if we dont make it again in the coming SPG?
