If Waitakere's history is

If Waitakere's history is anything to go by then Hekari should be weary.  Against Kossa they overcame a 2 goal deficit to maul Kossa.  Then in this year's NZFC semi finals they did it again by winning the second leg.  They did their business to qualify for next years O-League....Simply put, they have a long history of coming back from being down unlike Auckland FC that steamrolls everyone to the ultimate prize.  Having said that, I was excited when Kossa almost made it and I am also equally excited now that Hekari may win!  Its unfortunate that it is not a Solomon team, but I would be happy for them anyway....

Hekari vs Waitakere (Auckland Leg)

I was with Kossa in Auckland when Waitakere steamrolled us 5-nil. My comments below, which will be valuable to Hekari if they access this site.

1. Kossa won 3-1 at home. We played like Kings stret at Lawson Tama. Major contributing factor to the win (i) Home ground (ii) Team gelled well on that day (iii)Weather was to our advantange (hot, humid)

2. Ok for the away game, our problems started enroute. Team was delayed at Nadi due to flight problems. On arrival Auckland was unusually cold. Bear in mind, Kossa FC consists of young amatures so little things like that contributed a big way to game results. Also in my opinion, our win got to the players 'ego'. We won against Ba, drew with Tafea, 'thrashed' Waitakere in Honiara...ating olketa young boys ia lelebet overwhelmed by the success.

3. Another contributing factor is, and this is only my opinion, and i guess i have hindsight to my advantage, anyways looking back we could have done better if the coaches opted for a more defensice game rather than the attacking style that Kossa was good at. Defend and capitalise on our fast boys with counter attacks.

4. Luck - Lady luck was not on Kossa's side for that Auckland game. (i)Team was stranded at Nadi for 1 day (ii) Weather in Auckland was as if in middle of winter (iii) It rained on the day of the game (iv) Our top goalie Aefi sustained injury that took him out of play not long after opening whistle. Aefi was instumental in our victories and most if not all the boys trusted him. When he was injured morale was down.

Ok for Hekari. They just need to remember the following when they go against Waitakere at Trust Stadium
1. It will be Waitakere's home pitch. It would be like playing soccer in Waitakere's bedroom.
2. Weather - Be prepared to counter the cold
3. Be mentally fit to withstand any mishaps along the way
4. Play to qualify for Japan. This means go defensive and use counter attack, with a lone striker and sweeping flanks.
5. Kossa FC was destroyed by Waitakere's set-pieces. Waitakere will do the same and this time it will be on their pitch. They know every inch of the field and they will strike using their corner and free-kick set pieces.
6. Hekari coaches should ask Gideon Omokirio for his input. Gids was there when we lost so he will have valuable first hand info to help Hekari break this Waitakere Voodoo against Pacific teams.

I have a feeling that this time round the spell will be broken and Hekari will qualify for Japan, eventhough they will lose the game 3:2 in favour of Waitakere.

execute to perfection

Kossa Insider, the defensive play is a two edged sword.  If you play it well, it actually works at the same time it places unnecessary stress on the defense but a good defense can withstand 90 minutes of onslaught.....so Hekari need to pay attention to that....but it does work, if we recall Confederation Cup 2009, Brazil played the counter attacking football to perfection!  They won.  Spain played the more beautiful offensive game. They lost.  So it is really about execution on the day.  If Hekari has a defensive plan, it must play it to perfection. execute effectively.
Tommy Mana and Jerry Allen are strategists....if their strategy work - Hekari is in for a huge payout.

Waitakere United have just

Waitakere United have just crowned the New Zealand Football Champions after defeating Canterbury United. This is a warm up match for them against Hekari United. Now that they have claimed the NZ Championship Title, they are looking for a double victory. Hekari United must play their plan with determination to deny Waitakere United at all areas. Go Hekari Go

My prediction almost true to

My prediction almost true to the T! As i have correctly predicted Hekari lost [actual score - 2to1, my prediction - 3-2] but have qualified to the next level! Not to Japan as i have mistakenly posted, instead to UAE! Hekari you did us proud!

Big salute to the 8 or so Solo boys in the team, and especially to Kossa skipper Gids. Also hats off to the 2 Solomon Islands coach for Hekari.

Hekari has taught us that with resources we can pool best talents across the Melanesian countries and compete at the top level. Hekari is basically made up SNR national squad reps from PNG, Solo and Fiji.

We in the Solomons can do what Hekari did also by using our own top players in our top clubs here. When Kossa qualified last time, we actually wrote to top clubs in Honiara, namely Makuru, Koloale, Sunbeam, Rangers to release their players for Kossa but none of the clubs responded except for Sunbeam (Tome Faisi).
This resulted in our recruitment of internationals from Fiji and PNG. However we didnt have that deep a pocket to hold on to all of the international players except for Reginald Davani who stayed with us till end of campaign. If we want to compete at Hekari and Waitakere's level again we have to have depth and experience in our side and for us in Solo we do not have to look outside of the country to get talent, depth and experience, but only if our various club management leave aside petty club politics and rivalry for the good of the game and also for Solomon football. Just imagine if for the next O-league challenge all our Solo players pull out of Hekari to play for the Solomon club who qualified! That will be another story! Anyways, great job Hekari and see you guys next year in Auckland!

Prediction nomoa.

Waitakere will beat Hekari 5-1. Because homeground and big supporters behind them. Waitakere always plays the same tactic, loose at their overseas game for secutiry reason and win with high scores at home because feels much safer. If Hekari can win the game there it will teach them a great lesson.

Pudica, Hekarii has already

Pudica,

Hekarii has already won the tournament earlier this year and will represent oceania in the world club championship.

islands club have solidified themselves with the best of best from the islands so Waitakere and any other NZ club for that matter will have to fight hard this time round.
