having the skills to be spotted by scouts is only part of the equation. Maybe half. The other parts of the equation are sometimes not even related to how you kick the ball etc! I remember when an overseas commentator was marveling at the potential that Alick Maemae had at that time...he said something to the effect, "if Maemae should go to play in some division in the English League, he may probably have to bring his mother!" And to a great degree, this is very true. Our players lack a lot of the other skills that are necessary to be successful. When you have the total package, it is not difficult to break into overseas leagues. The total package is just not your skills on the ball! Judd Molea came to France and did not make the cut! I do not think he was any far less skilled, he just was not groomed well enough to have the total package to succeed. Benjamin Totori spent years in NZ before moving to the US. He was mildly successful and now we are left to wonder about what ifs and what nots. J Whetney carved a successful futsal career, he was groomed to be good. Whether he makes it, I do not know but I am very hopeful. I think the priority is for SIFF to invest in youth football, like it did in the past with School of Excellence! It must put a lot of money in "grooming" these players to have the total package (mentally & physically) to be successful career footballers. Hem nao way forward. Otherwise, we will rely on skill alone and that is not going to go very far. I wish the very best for J Whetney and I hope he breaks into Europe! The saddest thing I have seen is to see J Molea's colleagues from the Australian Football academy go on to be successful in Europe while he is still plying his trade in a "quasi-semi-professional" league in Brisbane. A waste and the system, people who have advised him have failed him big time...some fala ting ting nomoa.
