The dongles that will be sold to customers will enable users to use the mobile phone network to access the internet and send sms using their laptop computers or 3G handsets.

"The test results were very good while the speed was good and stable. Average speed of more than 300kps was recorded.  Of course this will degrade as more users are present on the network.  However, we anticipate that users will not use the network to download huge files from the Internet but instead use them to access email and other web related services that Our Telekom will be able to offer on the network."

Tests include streaming video, sending SMS and browsing the internet.

"One thing that we have to do is test various different flavours of operating systems and find out under what conditions they will work well.  As for Windows XP users with either Service Pack 2 or 3, the dongle works brilliantly as it will install all required programs and then automatically run."

Our Telekom engineers reveal that tests are ongoing and the company is developing packages for customers which will be launched once the new network is ready.
