Malaita Eagles claim a double in Solomon Cup

It was a tough encounter on paper but the result on the field failed to justify that belief.  A star studded Malaita Eagle side muffled any Hornets dream of an upset as it raced to an early 4-nil lead by the half time.  Led by the evergreen Batram Suri, the Eagles simply dominated the game.  The defense was strong and opportunities for Hornets were few and far in between.

Although both team started tentatively it soon became a lop sided tussle as soon as the first goal had gone in.  Kidston Billy rose to meet a well taken Judd Molea free kick from well outside the 18 yard box.  By the one hour mark Malaita was in total control of the game dictating the pace and missing a host of other chances.  Batram Suri made it 5 nil 10 minutes into the second half and then Nelson Sale put himself on the score-sheet as he rose above everyone to meet another Molea delivery to make it 6 nil.  An own goal sealed the Hornet's fate as Malaita Eagles rested its stars in Alick Maemae, Kidston Billy and Henry Fa'arodo; Billy being replaced by Division 1 leading goal scorer and Malu'u United stalwart, Selwyn Junior.

Judd Molea again displaying exceptional footwork and pinpoint passing to consolidate his claim to being Solomon Island's best midfielders.  His low drive in injury time slipped under the keeper to end the game with an 8 nil drubbing of a clueless Guadalcanal Hornets team.

On one of the few rare occasions that Hornets advanced into the Eagle's territory, Rade came close to scoring but his shot was wide and Shadrack Ramoni was untroubled.

A Malaita fan remarked, "The score line was expected because when you have Fa'arodo, Billy, Molea, Suri in the attack, goals will be expected then with Sale, Iani, Aengari in defense it will be very difficult to score."

After a 5 nil drubbing of the Choiseul Kuvojo, it was not expected that the Eagles would steamroll a Guadalcanal team that had just upset the Eagles nemesis, Honiara Warriors.  But before another capacity crowd at Lawson Tama, Malaita Eagles put all doubts to rest as they shredded the Hornet's defense and enjoyed a real stroll in the park.  The Eagles have claimed a double after the women's team also won the grand final on Friday.

different story from G Hornets

I hear a different story. Some people are claiming that the game was thrown for the sake of maintaining peace. The G Hornets did not want another problem with rioting so they gave the game away so that people lo Malaita save happy and no bonem any ting.

a different story from hornets

Yeah perhaps you're true....but with the full RAMSI troop presence around lawsan with high powered guns and the helicpoter hovering above, any possibility of having another riot is remote, that should be the hornets assuarance. The star studded side eagles with the big names, what do you expect, a torrent of goals.

a different story from hornets

The turth is hornet cannot stand the full weight of the eangles, the other provincial teams whether they will in the future include Honiara base players need to work extra hard to get the cup from the eagles
