true i agree with you on yo points. I believe that what is wrong with this marist team is that they included the likes of menapi, luwi etc into their teams.I believe they shouldnt be in the startingline up cause they were not featured in the club championships for that matter. Yes they might be good however miniti must stay faithful with the young players who helped them come this far. My point is that talent and expierence can cum just this far, what is needed is honour and pride in wearing that marist jersey...My point is that the manager of the team (miniti) needs to really think about what hes doing and what his strategy is.
However let us be reminded that this is just their first game and a loss might just be what they needed to play stronger .... Now to the solution
1. Michael patiti to be put in the starting line up. He has proved time after time that he is the go to man in these situations
2. Menapi to be used as a supersub of some sought, he should be on the bench to make the longstory short.
3.Abraham iniga to play as a lone striker up front with patiti supporting him as playmaker. This is because marist tends to struggle in defense when the going gets tough, in this level early goals should not be happening against marist
When Marist initially entered the O-league in the first home-and-away format, they almost lost Solo's place in the O-league. They were fortunate to win only the last game against a weak Tahiti side. During then they lost all games, they also brought in a lot of players, Luwi, Naka, Gideon.O, Takayama, Anisua, Hale, Tinoni, etc, also under the guidance of Miniti. Recruiting is ok but may be Miniti is recruiting the wrong players. He should recruit only better players to positions that are weak.
From my view, they dont currently have any star players who can be able to be depended upon to turn games around. They are all premier league players just like Kossa and Koloale (same strength) so they only need the right strategies and approach of each game. History shows and everyone knows Miniti is not the better coach on o-league competitions.
If they dont win any games, then it should be a good point for SIFF to re-strategize to decide the appropriate champion club.
i believe clubs have too many short term goals....but then who can blame them. the plan should be to start building for the future. O-League is encouraging clubs to win in the short term but does nothing for the long term survival of clubs. Earlier Marlonne wrote on the Koloale experience on Lifhaus. Essentially the amount of money clubs will waste to participate could be used for longer term development. Hence Marist will only lose in the likely event that they fail to win anything. Having said that unless you win the big prize, you are better off staying at home!
Did not watch the actual game but you would only need to see Marist during Honiara league to see it is not at the level to threaten anyone in Honiara, let alone the region. Marist won by luck and if hem lucky it will one even 1 game. So thats the long story short.
SIFF must now ditch the NCC in favour of a National Club League - I do not care how expensive it is, just get it done. Hem nao long term plan. Leaving things to chance is not good for football development. Sapos nomoa K1 United by qualify and then umi continue for shame go moa.
I agree, some of the guest players should be left on the bench. Hosea, Bisili, Doiwale and Iniga are able to lead the team. Miniti must see that.
Me to be honest no garem any la last hope lo Marist.

Solo Fans, Sorry we cant bet for our current club rep this round. No wastim time blo iu. You can bet on other teams like Hekari where have some Solo players and coach. Marist is only the Solo Rep not the Solo Champion club. Everyone doubts that they will ever win any game even before the o-league started. There are lots of obvious reasons why. So iumi supportim go Mela, Dagi and Alan
Jerry lo Hekari FC nomoa.
Koloale, Makuru and Uncles lelebet mekem iumi garem samfala hope for win. ha ha!
The coaching team of Marist FC should dig deeper if they are to keep their hopes of reaching the finals alive. But by the look of things, its does not look good. If Koalale and Kossa can beat Fiji's champ, then I fail to see to any reasons why marist should not. Its a slap on the face of home supporters back at home. what kind of a team is marist......they are only participating and not competing.....nafu for daonim solomon islands soccer na.
There need to be urgent changes to get Marist back on track. First of all, by observation Marist FC is a team that relies on individual players skills to win games. And most of the attempt to get to the opposition goal mouth is channel through the flankers. They also rely on the two flanking defenders to make over-lapping runs to support the attack. This is a good technique.
However this technique will not work when they are faced with a team with tall athletic defenders (as the case with Lautoka and most other teams in the region). What could have been done is to revert to quick 1,2 passes and movements. These requires a lot on intelligent play and movement from the players to create space. From observation Marist FC is slow in this aspect of the game - which makes it easier for teams to close them done.
Another common observation of Marist and most Solomon Islands teams is that the mid-fielders lack the confidence to shoot from outside the box. The reason for this may be because they tend to put all goalscoring responsibilities on the strikers. This mentality needs to be change!
The weakest aspect of Marist FC's game is their defence. Both of the first half goals were scored from set play. I understand that height is a problem with Solomon Islands players - so the question is how do we defend against tall attacking players during a set piece. Marist FC adopted the 'man marking' method which is good as you closely marked your player. However, the downside is that it will cause alot of movement infront of the goal mouth, causing a lot of confusion. Have a look at the two first goals against Marist FC on Sunday. The other possibility our teams could try in defending against set play is the 'zonal marking' method - where players are stationed at various strategic points in front of the goalmouth. The aim is to attack the ball when it comes in, so if the ball is within your zone you must attack it. This method quite often does not cause much confusion in the box as players are station at their zones waiting for the ball to come in.
Still on defence - I've observed that during the sunday game the Marist FC defence was too deep. Which allows Lautoka to attacked them with a lot of high balls which they find it difficult to deal with as well. I guess the reason for such deep defence was the fitness level of the defenders. If defenders a fit it is always good to move your defence further up the pitch so that play is directed in the other teams half.
No on to the National Club Championship (NCC) - I agree with the previous post that SIFF should now consider the formation of a National League featuring clubs from other provinces. This is the OFC stand at the moment - there need to be a wider league competition to select country representatives for the O-League. I remember SIFFs reason for the continuation of the NCC was because of the distance between islands and the expense that will be incurred if SIFF is to run a national league. And the SIFF president quote a huge sum of money for hiring planes to support his arguemnt.
For a start, I think running a national league is very easy, SIFF just have to put its act together and work on it. What SIFF should do for a start is to look at the issue of accessibility - which provinces or towns are readily accessible. Based on this, SIFF will then work on the number of clubs to start with. For example, at the moment towns like Auki, Tulagi, Noro, Gizo, Yandina, Malu'u and other parts of Guadalcanal are readily accessible either by boat or truck. So what SIFF could do is maybe to start the national league with 10 teams. And the line-up should be something like this (1) West Honiara (2) Central Honiara (3) East Honiara (4) SIPL (Guadalcanal) (5) Auki (Malaita) (6) Malu'u (Malaita) (7) Tulagi (Central) (8) Gizo (west) (9) Noro (west) (10) Yandina (Central) and later on it could be expanded to Buala (Isable) Kirakira (Makira) Doma (Guadalacanal) etc. The reason for identifying this centers is that because they are readily accessible by boats (Solomon Express etc) or trucks. SIFF should then enter into agreements with these shipping or transport companies for a reduce fare or the government can also provide some form of subsidizing fares for clubs. Clubs should also be responsible for finding their sponsors etc.
It is only through this format that the level of football in Solomon Islands will improve. Also with the home and away games format - clubs will also generate their own income from gate takings, merchandise and build their fan base as well. Also the fields will also improve as a result of a decentralized league.
I hope Alfurai and Ngava read this page as well and stop pretending that its a really difficult task to organize a national league.
I think Marist FC now placed in position that they really needs to do something extraoridnary to save them have a chance in this O-league play offs. As it stands, I dont think that is possible. By the way who is Miniti? Sometimes, I questioned guys like Miniti's experience and analytical skills in reading the games. Does he ever think of ways to improve his team. By the way does Marist really need the likes of Menapi , Luwi etc? Oh are you just using these names to show off and do some pyschological advances for your team. I think Marist should retain its players, those who fought tirelessly during the club champions. I know there are young but good players of Marist not included in the team because the like of Luwi, Menapi and others came on board. Come on be proud of your young players and do them some justice by including them in the final squad. I can't remember all the youngsters of marist but I can remember youngsters like Johan Doiwale , Arnold Keni etc. Why Miniti foret these young players and looking for old , experience but not productive players who never produce what we want. Enough of these old players Miniti. You have brought shame to all the soccer fans in Solomon Islands, and more over to yourself.
This is the problem we have in Solomon Islands. I want SIFF, the executive to start thinking of some creative ways to help our soccer industry. If SIFF executives dont have any new ideas to help boost this industry then may I suggest you all find the exit doors and get out. What are you guys doing? Stop feeding on SIFF money and doing nothing lasting and profitable for soccer industry. I think the likes of Alufurai and Ngava plus others is outlived or outdated.
Come on, there are people out there can do better than this and lead Solomon Islands to new heights. Enough of saying Solomon Islands is a soccer fun loving crazy nation but without any proper administration, coordination, infrastructure and incentives for the players, and the clubs...what are shame.
Nothing in this life is cheap. In other words, life is meant to be expensive and challenging. Anything that is cheap, will not stand the test of time, and eventual is of no value. I agree with others that SIFF needs to change its approach in selecting teams to represent this country, but that must be done through some competitive performances okay.
Yia man, this seems to always be the case. Some players sweat the real struggle and others like Menapi come in for the glory rides.. and of course the team, looses because these players are not used to playing together.
Soccer in the Solomons tend to over-estimate itself. Brazilians of the pacific? Lets remove that label. I have never seen so much incoherency in a single matc.. somewhat stagared and unco'ordinated. Our teams need to function as a unit rather than lots of individually skilled players bundled together on a field of play.
Lets try some team building capacity routines. Pass the ball when there is a chance.. rather than pass when there is no were left to go. Being a rugby player, I believe socer players need a certin exposure in rugby.. where team work is supreme over individual skills.
Let Marist play.. and let them do it with the team that got them through. I did not pay to see menapi. I payed my $75.00 to see Marist.

somehow the loss a few weeks ago seems to have taken the life out of this weekend's encounter. i'd be very interested to know if attendance would have dropped and if it is significant. come to think of it besides Menapi, Marist players are really fringe national team players most of whom wouldn't even break into the first eleven. But look at the Tafea line up....its scary!...
"Simplicity is an art" | The views and opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of the people, institutions or organizations that I may or may not be related with unless stated explicitly.
Seems the predictions & analysis are unfolded so far. Another uphill battle against Hekari is next! Based on the above analysis, if hekari can draw with tafea then hekari is as strong as tafea. Therefore if tafea can beat marist, so can hekari!! Isn't that a disgrace to a soccer nation who was once 2nd best to Australia in the Oceania? Seem's Solo Soccer is going backwards? Where are the Soccer heads? Heard there were too many workshops to empower soccer officials (referees, coaches, etc). What about the players? What about creating more national competitions every year? What about marketing players overseas? What about sending emerging coaches overseas for better technical knowHows who can add more value to players? Dont we realize yet the soccer is declining?
Long live soccer passion in Solo, but may those soccer heads see the opportunities in this passion to make something better out of it.
With the recent turn of events, it became obvious that we need to seriously contemplate where we went wrong.
I wish to put forward some suggestions. First and foremost we must not be called the Brazilian of the south pacific. It is shameful as our soccer standard is no match for that title. That title encourages pride and and we seems to over look the flaws we have in soccer. Why not just call us the Solomon Islands of the South pacific?
We should admit that we are not good in 11 a side soccer competition. Emphasis should be put more on Futsal and beach soccer.
Based on Marist FC's poor and unproductive performance during its 2 O'League games. One can easily tell from face value that the standard of soccer in the country is slowly sinking. My goodness, can you belief 2 loses in a row. What a joke for Solomon Islands Club champion. What do you think people from outside will think of the standard of soccer in the Solomon Islands - "Low Standard tumas na this time". Congratulations to clubs like Makuru, Kossa and Kolale - these three teams also take part in the O'League previously and they did better than Marist FC. This year is Marist's second time to be in the O'League, and by the look of things - they had never improved from. Their record shows that they have yet to win an O'League match....my goodness you fala real champion too or how.
Wantok, don't include Makuru FC with the likes of Kossa FC and Koloale FC when it comes to the O'league. Makuru FC's spell in the O'league was equally disappointing as those of Marist FC.
I will stop talking about Solo soccer for a while.....need some time off to recover from this latest result and will come back later!
Oh sore Minomoa for including Makuru in the list with Kossa and kolale. Marist is not really a very side 2 represent the country at such a very competitive level as that of the O'League. Ating performance blo oketa during those home games must be very disappointing. True na oketa barava letem their supporters down stret na. What had the coaching team learned from their first home game against the Fiji champs. They learned nothing and hem show out stret in the game against Tafea FC....barava no good performance stret na.
reading these comments from everyone in this forum makes me laugh. Its funny how when a solomon soccer team wins we all get really proud and start calling ourselves the brazilians of the pacific and what not. However as soon as we get defeated we start blaming the coach or the players for the poor result and we end up not even supporting our teams. Just look at the above titles such as :Marist: A Disgrace,Solo soccer going backwards ,SIFF Needs to look beyond its toes...cmon solo people wake up! this is sport, and in sport their will always be a winner and a loser and unfortunatly for us we were the losers. Tafea has a striker that plays in the israeli soccer leauge and he scored by dribbling past 3 of our defenders, and why was that? because hes a very good player and better then the marist players, just becsause he comes from vanuatu and not solo does not make him less in the skills category. So lets get one thing straight solo fanatics! let us continue to fully support our marist team in their remaining away games cause at the end of the day the result is determined on the playing field...
oh and lastly we are not the brazilians of the pacific but the WANNABES OF THE PACIFIC!
GO SOLO GO!
i ting it is even more dangerous and typical of solomon islanders to accept being second best. I mean the brazilians did not become the best because they accepted their lot in life. They went to work and became the best.
the best thing SIFF should do is take heed of the numerous advices given already. That Marist is not fit to be competing in O-League because it was a last minute entry that somehow won the tournament ahead of other more deserving teams like Uncles, Koloale, Makuru and Kossa. Clubs who have shown themselves fit by proving themselves either in O-League or in the domestic DJ League. I mean it is as simple as that.
Marist, congratulations on your national club championship win but you fala no fit for play lo O-League. Its that simple...not your mistake - its SIFF's problem to fix.
lets get one thing straight. IF we FIX a wrong, we can HOPE for a better result. Until then, umi better off shutting up or putting up.
I support the comments raised that decried SIFF and Marist's efforts. I do not support the idea that we should accept being second best. Me fala lo Solo save play soccer better than anyone else in the region - with the right development and strategy in place; we will go places!!!!....hem nomoa
leana hola....e dou
i do agree with your commennt adriano that SIFF NEEDS to take a good hard look at itself. After how many years of independence we are ranked 173rd behind countries like sri lanker, laos, pakistan, somalia! gosh do these countries even do have a national soccer team..and for us to be called the brazilians of the pacific and are behind them,it is a shame! however i do not agree with the fact that marist should not represent us in the o leauge. Yes other clubs played consistently in the dj leauge so why cant they have beaten marist again in the qualifying tournament? i thought they were consistent? my point is that soccer is determined after 90min of play and there is a winner and a loser and marist did win thus they deserve to play in the o leauge. But yes adriano we need development in all aspects of football from that time where that little solo kid first kicks hes tiny soccer ball up until he decides to sign a proffesional footballing contract.SIFF CAN ONLY do so much after that its up to the players to maintain their discipline of and on the field. What do i mean by that? Often u will see when the solo national team plays against another country and are losing and theres less then 5min before full time they tend to give up and start to play in an undisciplined matter. If they were disciplined they would try as much to fight for an equaliser. Thus i believe a sport phsycologist needs to be involved in our soceer fratenity. Solo players are naturally skilful but in using their brain in analysing, and interpretating situations on the field they are hopeless again this comes down to SOLO MENTALITY OF MAKING TO MANY EXCUSES!...LIKE ehhh! mefala go play lo nz but barava ova cold nah! wel get over that coldness and come up with a strategic plan to overcome it.
I tend to emphasise solomon mentality cause i believe that is the root cause of our problem in footbal. Due to that fact thai it has been falsely subconsciously installed in us that we are the brazilians of the pacific we think we can dribble into the goal net to score , and when that doesnt happen we fall back again, instead of taking our chances in the 18yrs box and shooting it in.From the words of sir booby charlto he said that the more opportunities you take in shooting the more chances u make to score, however we solomon islanders like to "strik, strik" and then score. This MENTALITY MUST STOP IVE GOT A LOT OF THINGS ON MY MIND BUT ME REST FAST TIME
P.S.... THIS IS A DISCUSSION SO anyone is free to agree to disagree cause at the end of the day if we move foward in all aspects of football i believe that the generation that are born after 2005 or so could be the one to take solomons to the world cup or how?
I support the idea of introducing National League because that would strengthen the league and the sides, say for example, the Auki team can be comprised of players selected within Auki league or perhaps from Malu'u. Since, if we look at Lautoka team, it is a national league side not a club such as Marist or Kossa. Lautoka is same as the teams for the Solomon Cup, like Honiara warriors or Malaita eagle. Well, Malaita eagle had represented us once but because of lack of national league and Malaita was selected on a one-off tournament. Before, Fiji was also sent a club representative forgot the name, may be Lautoka eagle or what, and they lost badly and therefore resort to National League to represent them, so happen that they have an active National League.

Perhaps Marist defeats reflects on the standard of soccer in the country. I meant i read somewhere that the country has slipped ranks.
the hypothesis by the 'anonymous' does holds water but anything with the 'brazilan' tag is possible.
somehow the loss a few weeks ago seems to have taken the life out of this weekend's encounter. i'd be very interested to know if attendance would have dropped and if it is significant. come to think of it besides Menapi, Marist players are really fringe national team players most of whom wouldn't even break into the first eleven. But look at the Tafea line up....its scary!...
