I read with great interest and curiosity, the fact about RAMSI leaving and the Coordinator talking about 'Confidence in local Police'.
The only question I can ask is how is RAMSI promoting local police confidence when they are really the power bolt here?
Now (as I’m writing) rural people are not confident in our local RSIPF and the current system in the police force. Rural people (SI’ders) are scared if RAMSI withdraw, there may be bigger things coming. The fact is that with RAMSI and its efficient logistic advantage, financial strength, there is not much done in winning confidence of people in their local police. Rural people want RAMSI and local police to get down to the grass root level, it doesn't happened. There is weak policing even with RAMSI’s presence!
It seems from my observation, RAMSI did nothing to boast local people's confidence in their police force, instead they hold on to that critical element. Did RAMSI (Aus) do this for a purpose? I think of the leak police reports about the April 2006 riot and how RAMSI never act, kind of smells bad. Did Canberra have an agenda, not too sure about it too, but something is dusty here. I think of all the night operations of RAMSI helicopters, trainings and the many advisors that infiltrate our government, who are they working for – most are consultants or Aus government officers, their allegiance?
Are our islands already surveyed and known inside out by these highly trained and sophisticated technologies and scientist component of RAMSI? I wish I have answers or at least know. It remains a mystery! It was once declared that “Britain colonized the continent of Australia and the South Sea Islands which includes the Melanesian archipelagoes. Does this going towards re-colonization? It might, but in a different sense, one that springs to my mind out of the many methods is financial re colonization. Solomon Islands will continue to depend and depend on donor and external funding that we will become more vulnerable in our decision making. Our resources are at stake! They will never, never build a stronger resilient country that can make their own decisions and MAP their own destination.
And worst still the big fish within the police force and government has never faced discipline as has been alleged in the past for some wrong doings. Does this ring bells? Should we trust our own police?
Yes, I can say with confidence, but now RAMSI is overshadowing the process to regain that TRUST.
