John Kapi Natto is a visionary and in most cases men like him are remembered for a very long time. In 2006, Natto launched his semi-professional football franchise Hekari FC based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. In the inaugural PNGFA National Soccer League, Kapi Natto's franchise were winners and in 2008, they earned a berth in the 2008/9 O-League. As early as 2006, Natto quickly established a close relationship with Marist FC of the Solomon Islands and used that partnership to recruit top Marist players to play in PNG.
That began a successful relationship which saw players such as Benjamin Mela, Abraham Iniga and Jack Samani become permanent features of Hekari FC. Hekari FC would come agonizing close to qualifying for the O-League final in 2009 but a 1-0 win by Koloale FC of Solomon Islands over Ba of Fiji ended the hopes of the O-League debutant.

Perhaps one of the most interesting things about John Kapi Natto's model is he is unafraid to recruit and spend money on quality players. On the other hand he is also ruthless in discipline. Jack Samani was an integral part of the Hekari franchise but Lifhaus sources indicate that Samani was eventually replaced due to his lack of commitment to the club. Exporting star right defender Koriak Upaiga to feature in the highly competitive domestic Honiara DJ League in 2009 also paved the way for Kapi Natto to tap into a greater pool of talent consistently produced by Uncles FC. Solomon Islands was not only the focus of Natto's attention, he also recruited widely, bringing players from Fiji and at one time landed Judd Molea, the Uncles FC and Solomon Islands star midfielder.
In the 2009/10 O-League, after a draw with Tafea FC and a loss against Lautoka FC, Natto reinforced the club during the January transfer window by landing Solomon Islands stars Henry Fa'arodo, Alick Maemae, Eddie Ngaitini, Stanley Waita'a and Gideon Omokirio. His recruits did not disappoint as Hekari stunned Tafea FC of Vanuatu 4-0 in Port Moresby. On March 7 2010, Hekari FC toppled pool leaders Lautoka FC 1-0, a game Fiji football pundits described Lautoka as being unable to get " their act together and was beaten in all phases of the game by the visiting team".
Coaches Tommy Mana and Jerry Allen are proven winners, the former whose tenure at the helm resuscitated Hekari's faltering 2008/9 O-League debut. Incidently, Hekari was dismal under current Marist FC coach Patrick Miniti. Tommy Mana is renowned for his highly successful stint with Makira/Ulawa Provincial Football and a short coaching spell in Fiji.
By the 28th of March 2010, John Kapi Natto may finally learn the fate of his fledging football empire. A win against cellar dwellers Marist FC of the Solomon Islands will certainly consolidate Hekari FC's rise as a football force in Oceania and earn the club an O-League finals berth against the winner of the top of the table clash between Auckland FC and Waitakere United of New Zealand. No doubt, Natto senses that he is close to a personal historical milestone. He has been there before and perhaps this time, he will leave no stones unturned.
In many respects, a trip to the finals would be the greatest testament of John Kapi Natto's vision. It would, without doubt, consolidate his place in football folklore as a visionary. It will show that vision with the right degree of passion and commitment will succeed everytime.
