Quiet in Honiara save the usual drunkards

Aside from the usual occurances of the drunkards reeling home early in the morning, the christmas eve celebrations in Honiara were relatively quiet.  There were the usual complaints of loud music, drunks chasing each other and shouting to disturb the peace, there was relatively no major disturbances in most Honiara suburbs.  "I think more people left for the provinces this year so things were relatively quiet." said a Mbua Valley resident.

Lifhaus encountered the usual drunks making a niusance of themselves, one who literally walked onto the road at the National Referral Hospital without regard for any oncoming vehicle.  But most people spoken to mentioned that they spent time with their families in quiet little BBQ's in the backyard.

"The usual last minute shopping happened on Wednesday and the rush to pay for cash power at SIEA.  The town was literally packed on Wednesday."  Reports reaching Lifhaus indicated that Ausmart Shopping brought in goods especially for the festive season and "by Friday they had run out of all the good stuff".  Other shoppers were found at Panatina Plaza searching for gifts and "food to stock up for the long weekend."

Desperate LaunchersLifhaus also encountered what one roving Lifhaus reporter described as the "Desperate Launchers".  One such setup was found near the ITA hardware complex with loud speakers blaring and a sizable crowd gathered to watch as a bunch of drunkards took turns in dancing to the lively music.  "This was supposedly an album launch and the other one was found beside the Ausmart Shopping centre."  A third was spotted at Mamanawata.

All in all, there was relative calm on the main streets of Honiara, most suburbs reported minor incidents and scuffles mostly drunkard in nature.

"I actually enjoyed this christmas, spent it with family and it was very quiet" said a Vura resident.  Lifhaus made a visit to Panatina and found the same story being told in that area.
