SIEA blackouts return in stunning fashion

Months have passed and it seemed like a long time ago since frustration began to set in over the continuous power blackouts in Honiara.  This week the nightmare returned none more so than yesterday and today.  To cap off today's misery, Our Telekom's Breeze GSM failed for over 5 hours.

However, it was SIEA's power cuts that caught Lifhaus's attention as shops along Ranadi today used candles, flashlights and battery powered lamps to ensure that their customers were served in the evening.  Speaking to a shopkeeper at Ranadi Lifhaus was informed that the power had been off for "quite some time already so the drinks are no longer cold" she shopkeeper responded.  Offices and complexes with standby generators were the only brightly lit places along the highway.

Yesterday, the stretch along Kukum Highway and parts of Mbua Valley and Kolaa Ridge were in the dark for more than 3 hours.  "It is frustrating but we can't do much about it."  The blackout at Kukum may have been a fault as Lifhaus witnessed SIEA engineers speeding throughout the area most probably in a desperate bid to fix the problem.

The blackout today caught many people by surprise.  "We thought this would have been a thing of the past but we are experiencing the problem once again."  A disappointed shopowner again stressed that "our frozen goods will be destroyed if this blackout continues.  Ice-cream will crystalize and customers do not want to buy an ice-cream that has melted and refrozen again."
