Ministers sacked The Solomon Star has reported that Prime Minister Dr. Derek Sikua yesterday sacked five of his Ministers in relation to the defeat in parliament over the Political Parties Amendment Bill 2009. The Ministers sacked are Snyder Rini (Minister for Finance), Gordon Darcy Lilo (Environment Minister), Selwyn Riumana (Agriculture Minister), Nollen Leni (Fisheries Minister) and Laurie Chan (Justice and Legal Affairs Minister). PM Dr. Sikua also removed government backbencher and MP for West New Georgia Mr. Peter Boyers as Chairman of the Investment Corporation of Solomon Islands (ICSI). Other Ministers reshuffled to keep the cabinet going are Francis Billy Hilly (Finance), Peter Shanell (to Commerce), Augustine Taneko (to Justice & Legal Affairs) and Severino Nuaiasi (to Fisheries). Mr. Lilo’s replacement is still being decided.

Sacking

What difference will the sacking do for the country when parliament dissolves in a few days anyway?

Its only point scoring

no difference. why not allow PS of respectively Ministries care while you MP hunt for voters.

All we know is both Bills are going to be trashed before making it to parliament. kaem evry MP like to be the next PM.

atleast none of us is mention

in our country in any blame equation Malaitan is always a default guess. With the recent revelation from PM non of our Malaitan Mp are mention. Who knows one or two could be working at the back.

To malaitan MP's rule with vision and let them know that we are not as evil as they think we are. Malaita and Malaitan you will always be solomon Islander.

loggers vs Solomon Islanders

hem definitely not point scoring.  Snyder had it coming a long time ago....Lilo, well hem easy tomas for lukim hem one troublemaker....he was behind Sogavare's downfall and he was the very person working like a major power broker behind the scenes - believe me, he is a very powerful individual, the sad thing is he brings a lot of baggage to parliament; that is the problem....Sikua seems like he has finally grown up but too late.  He could have done this a while back but he knew it would cause instability so he waited until the very last moment....if you ask me, there is now a stronger possibility that those remaining the final government grouping will be more inclined to team up with Sogavare then with Lilo/Snyder and crew.  It is good going into the election that umi voters will clearly see for ourselves which government we are likely to have in the coming elections.....Snyder and his band of loggers OR Sogavare with Our Party OR a possible Sikua/Sogavare alliance but oketa everyone must win fast time...sapos oketa big names ya lose....expect a new gavman.
me tingim osem Sikua hem smart man - wounds blo tension strong yet ya so hem no mek any move lo oketa MP from Guale or Malaita...definitely, there were some bad Malaitan apples in the soup....I think hem no like mekem bigger problem nomoa...smart move...sapos nomoa umi should lukim Fono sack too ba!!!!!! Me long honest ting ting blo me hem just Loggers vs Solomon Islanders....and you can now clearly see who has the country's interest at heart!

Politricks and Politics: Different Stuff

Someone wrote an article calling this move "politics as usual" for Solomon Islands. Politics is the art of governing and "dirty politics" comes when politicians used their constitutional rights or the cover of the laws to push through their own policies in order to protect their butts! This move is certainly a move to punish those who don't support the bill with which this government depends on. The strategy is a move to save the arses of those who are in government, eg. Hon. Fono who may face a very challenging fight this coming election. The CBC and the Political Party Bill aimed to save them from the horrors of this coming election, an "opt-out" strategy. If Parliament returns sometimes this year, its more likely that the CBC and the Party Bill will be back!
Those who took the bait, MPs such as Shanel, who recently called the Party Bill garbage, are absolutely stupid and are nothing more than money-mongers. But again, nothing will stop these self-serving MPs from beating each other up to save their own skin.
Besides, this is more than Mala or Guale or Western. Many Mala MPs are behind these bills and are off course architects of some of these defeated bills and would have been the recipients of the bills if they sailed through Parliament.
